How To Set Up Automated Scripts For AdWords

Setting up AdWords manually is repetitive and tiring, but by setting up Google Scripts, marketers can greatly reduce the time it takes to manage PPC campaigns. AdWords Scripts boast several built-in functions that enable marketers to structure their paid advertising, sync campaigns, ad groups and keywords so you can dedicate more time on focusing your business logic than staring at a computer screen clicking a mouse. The first step is to go to Google Developer Tools Link Checker and follow the instructions. The other option is to use Google’s pre-programmed scripts, but they may not meet your needs. Link Checker instructions help you re-write the code.

How to set up AdWord Scripts

  • Login into your Adwords account, select Bulk actions from the left menu and click Scripts.
  • Click on add Script, name your script appropriately so you can identify it then copy paste the following code:

function main() {
var keywords = AdWordsApp.keywords()
.orderBy(“Impressions DESC”)
.forDateRange(“YESTERDAY”)
.withLimit(10)
.get();
Logger.log(“10 keywords with most impressions yesterday”);
while (keywords.hasNext()) {
var keyword = keywords.next();
Logger.log(keyword.getText() + “: ” +
keyword.getStatsFor(“YESTERDAY”).getImpressions());
}
}

  • Confirm the script by clicking ‘Authorise now’ the click on preview to make sure the code has been registered.
  • To check the script is functioning, select the Run Script Now then navigate to your reporting tab in your Google spreadsheet to see if the links are showing.
  • If the links are showing correctly, schedule a time for your Scripts to run. You can run them once a day, once a week or once a month. If you are running a large campaign with a lot of landing pages, you might want to run them hourly, but this is only really conducted by agencies with numerous large accounts.
  • Run the script and click Save. You can then close the script from the top right hand corner.
  • When you close the script you will be taken to the Scripts page. Click “Create Schedule” and you are ready to go.
Creating AdWord Scripts is a great way to reduce time management of your paid advertising campaigns, so make best use of Google’s developer tools and advice if you want to take full advantage of the feature.
