Facebook Adds New Video Metrics To Page Insights


Facebook has responded to user requests by adding new video metrics to its Page Insights in a bid to compete with rivals YouTube.
The social media giant hopes to convince marketers to upload video ads directly into the social network rather than drafting them in from other video hosting platforms.
The new metrics are designed to give publishers deeper insights into how viewers engage with video content. Together with a revamped interface, users now have access to data they can use to improve future video marketing strategies.

What are the new video metrics on Facebook?
Before the introduction of the new metrics, users were only able to track the total number of views – which included videos that had been watched for three seconds or more. The data was misleading.
The new metrics reveal the total number of minutes viewers spend watching video content and only count views when the video is allowed to run for at least 10 seconds.
Perhaps the most useful metric is the sound on v sound off. This metric has the potential to reveal more user behaviour and user preference.
A survey conducted by New Digital Media revealed that 70% of users do not like to be interrupted by sound being played automatically on video ads, and 59% of internet users browse with the sound turned off to avoid unexpected noise.
There are also other occasions where users may not want sound blasting out – school children in class, students in lectures and business people in seminars or just around the office.
With Facebook continuing to improve its marketing tools and help online businesses produce better quality content in video ads, the social media platform is armed to rival Google and other search engines to increase its own ad revenue.
